Default Which HU will give me better SQ ?

I have had an Alpine 9855 for a while, having just used the onboard amp to run stock speakers in my 02 Toyota Tundra.

But now will be adding some speakers and amps to the picture (OZ Matrix CS130's in the doors, and 2 ID8's in QLogic box under rear seat. Amps will be either Soundstream or Xtant on the doors, and Alpine MRV M500 on the subs.

I just picked up a Pioneer AVH3300BT, mainly because I wanted a backup camera ... but am wondering now in terms of SQ will I be taking a step backward using the Pioneer instead of the Alpine as my head unit ? Don't plan on using active X-overs as I think the passive units on the OZ's are pretty darn good.

Welcome any thoughts or opinions, thanks!

There are a few things that make one deck better than another. first is 24 bit conversion rather than 1 bit, second high volt out puts IE:4 volt or higher in stead of 2 volt, third built in HP LP xovers, fourth on a few pioneers auto eq and fifth active xovers found in a few pioneers. Most people will spend the extra bucks on features like BT HD radio pandora and graphics featuring dancing dolphins but are 1 or 2 models away from the audio features that separate them from the the entry level decks and think they have a SQ deck. I noticed that many JVC decks have 2.5 volt rca and 24 bit conversion now on low end decks. Nakamichi had SQ decks with only one volt rca and decks that required a pre amp like in home audio. Hope that helps? I saw no one responded so I thought I should throw in my $.02 worth

Features have nothing to do with how a deck sounds. Neither does preout voltage in and of itself.

If you're looking for SQ, get an SQ oriented deck. If you want features, get features. If you want both... you have very few and quite expensive options.

IMO, you will be taking a step backwards in source quality. The 9855 is a sweet sounding deck. But if you're willing to take that step back for a backup camera (and the fact that you already have it), then put it in and see what you think. Then you can come back and tell us if it was worth it.

High output voltage reduces the possibility of gain caused noise, that's all it does.

Neither have t/a or many bands of parametric eq, correct? Using a prefab sub enclosure? Use the one that has the features and display you like best. You won't hear a difference.

I can't hear the difference I read that your hearing peaks at 12 years old 20 Hz to 20K Hz. Then diminishes to 12K to 14K Hz in your adult life.

This is true. I have good hearing compared to friends. I know I can hear some frequencies beyond what they can yet mind drops of around 16.5khz. I blame years of playing drums in rock bands. This is actually a good thing from my point if view. A lot of wideband 3's will play to 17khz now. That makes my front stage much easier to setup. I don't need a tweeter for the last little bit. Although I like the idea of DD's AW3. Plays up to 22khz.
