Does anyone have an good links or examples of good SQ setups in a crew cab truck? After 15 years of SPL, I'm wanting to try my hand at something new, but I want to get some idea's stirring first.
Vehicle: 2006 Silverado Crew cab
I am wanting to build a setup that has great sound and imaging, but to be honest, in all the years of competing I've never even seen a SQ car in action (plan to do so in a few months), and the closest I've ever had to good sound was some German made MB Quartz that I used to run in some kick panels.
I'm going to be running 3 PPI made amplifiers from the 80's for front stage, then a PPI 2150am for the sub more than likely.
I'm not planning to compete so I'm not building per any rules.
I've seen examples where less is more so I'm trying to keep it simple to prevent having too many clashing variables, but then again I'm nothing more than a novice that hasn't even gotten his feet wet.
Thoughts so far, please help steer me in the right direction..
I'm running a Pioneer Double Din AVH-X4800BS and planning to use it since I thoroughly enjoy this hu, it has 3 sets of 4v preouts, active xovers, time alignment, etc.
Currently running Auditor (by Focal) 6.5" components in front doors and JL 6.5" coax in rear doors. I plan to pull all these.
I would like to run some 2-3" tweeters/mids on the A-pillars, possibly midbass speakers in the kicks, and 1-2 drivers in each front door. I will power the pillars, the doors, and the kicks each with a 50 x2 @4ohms PPI made amplifier. I plan to use an Audiocontrol 6XS to help with the front stage signal directing.
Rear doors? I'm not sure if I want to run rear fill, but then again its a 4 door truck, so why not? Maybe run identical drivers as the front doors and run that amplifier in 2 ohm stereo. I'm thinking the a-pillar drivers will be kinda off axis for the rear passengers anyways, so not sure what to do there.
Sub is currently a rear firing design which I replaced my center console with (sub is an fu audio 750 series 12").
I know this is somewhat raw material to start with, but I don't really know the ins and outs on matching drivers for SQ, I understand the concept of choosing drivers that remain linear within a specific freq range, but choosing this mid with that tweeter isn't as easy since I haven't heard any good sq setups, and I don't really want to run passive xovers if I don't have to, so trying to avoid comp sets.
