Default Enclosure recomend ion for a single X18 V1 d2.

Hello to everyone,

I'm about to build a new enclosure for my SA X18 V1 d2.
As per the recommendation from Sundown, this driver must be working in a 7 cu. ft. box, and a total port area of 112 sq. in.

By entering all the necessary parameters on the box design software (ProBox), I realized that, to achieve the tunning freq. (30hz), using that port area, the box will be as big as 9.5 - 10 cu. ft.

My question is, the 7 cu. ft. recommended by Sundown, is before displacements? (sub, port...) or, the 7 cu. ft. must be "free" of all displacements? 7 cu. ft. of air space, to mention in some way.

I must say that I've available the necessary room for a 10 cu. ft. box; I just want to know if it's ok to build a box so big without compromise the overall performance of the driver.

Finally, what is the Xmax value of this subwoofer?

Any comments will be appreciated.

Regards.

Box recommendations in the car audio world are always after all displacements. (All the ones I come across)
Not sure on xmax but around 33mm

I ran zv4 series and they seemed to like large boxes and lots of port.

Thanks for the reply, I think this sub will be working very good in that large box.

Wink Zv4 18 airspace

I run a Zv4 18 but for Xs & Zv4s, the recommendation is the same from Sundown. They do recommended 7.0 Net, 32Hz & 112 of port area & I think there spot on. With that said, Ive been running my Zv4 18v1 in 7.9 cubes net (after displacements) tuned around 33. The sub LOVES it. Gets SUPER low, sounds clean & the higher of the lows are great too. If I were to build another box for a single X or Z4 18, only change I would personally make would maybe tune to 32 vs 33 but I don't think it would be very much diff. Ive thought of trying 30 but don't want to loose out on the 40-50Hz range. The Zv4s , & especially X18v1s dig LOOOOW enough on there own. Im having new enc. built for 2-Zv4 18's to 15 cubes Net @ 32Hz & 16 sq. in. per Cube.. Most people tune around 32 that Ive talked to & they love it. IMO, Tuning to 30 is if you only ever listen to slowed/ Decaf type music with bass mostly 20-35Hz +/-. I think it hurts the 40-50 range. Still, 30Hz would get down crazy low. All this is just my personal opinion & Im no expert. BTW, I run the Zv4 18 on a SAZ3500v2 & the sub takes the power all day in stated enclosure (DD-1 tuned for no clipping). Don't 4get, Bigger box = Bigger sound. Smaller box takes more power to make same amount of boom. But too big & you can loose control of sub. I wouldn't go over 8 cubes net per 18 personally but like I said b4, Im no expert. GL

Hey 704piree1,

Sorry for the late response.
Thanks for sharing your experience with this subs.
Finally, I built a 7 cf enclosure (after displacements, 10.x cf total), 112 sq-in of port as recommended by Sundown, and the low end extension is impressive.
My car is falling apart now haha
This subs plays great on big enclosures so, if you have the space, you can go with a big box without issues.
I'm putting no more than 1,000 or so, an extra battery and stock electrical and sounds incredible low and loud; yes, the upper bass was compromised but I'm ok with the final response.

Regards.

That's awesome you got it all set up & like how it sounds. I bet it sounds great. I still haven't got my new box built for my move up to 2 - 18" Zv4s but I cant wait for that to be done. (going from 1 - 18 to 2 - 18s & already have 2nd sub). The biggest enclosure I could have built (no wall, keep back seats in) & still have room for battery bank etc. was 15 sq ft Net, ported @ 32hz, HUGE Kerf on port. I wanted 16 net but oh well. Using birch wood stained ebony black (to match black escalade). Its going to be a monster. 1.5" thick everywhere except 2.25" baffle. Lots of other upgrades (always) in progress but its slowly coming along. & I know what you mean when you say your car is falling apart. Bass will rattle some s**t loose quick! LOL. Ive already had to fix my rear hatch lock assembly a few times & other stuff too. With going to 2 18s & doubling the current power, I have to do a LOT of things to make truck more solid. ***BTW, if you ever decide to go to 2000rms (I would suggest a sundown scv2000), you will be blown away at the difference. 2K is when the Xs really start moving some air ;-)

That's correct, you're the second person that say that a Sundown Audio amp will be better than the HiFonics I'm using; I know that's for sure.
Greetings from Mexico

Greetings from Mexico
Greetings back at ya & yes sir, your absolutely correct. Sundown is WAY better than HiFonics. I've had a lot of experience with each brand. I still have a couple HiFonics laying around (not being used & for sale). Have 4 diff sundown amps too. I have a HF Brutus BRE Elite 2000.1 & I'll put it this way, my Sundown saz-1500.1 does much better than my HiFonics-2000. If you want to make that X18 bang way harder for super cheap, I'd throw a CAB-1600.1 on it (caraudiobargain.com). Hell of a good budget amp (dollar per watt). They're $200 & on a Dyno the results are
very impressive. I'll paste links showing dyno tests if your interested in looking, but here are the results...

CAB-1600.1= 1760w @ 14.72v @ 1ohm Certified run
Hifonics-1700.1 = 1199w @ 14.87v @ 1ohm Certified run

*CAB 1600.1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cskMEok_HYc
(on same Dyno - SMD)
*Hifonics 1700.1 test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t7Z2T7_LB8

I've seen a Sundown SAZ-3500v2 do about 4250w @ 1.17ohm clamped around 14v (+/-). They do great & I may be wrong but I think a saz-1500.1 can do about 2K. All tests without box rise of course. Have fun with that X18, I love them!
