And the orion is the 3kspl not the 5k. The 5k does even more than that. And at around $800 or so.

Right, I was just pointing out that it wasn't DEI who destroyed the brand. It was Epsilon who did them in. The recent HCCA and XTR amps(after the crap that Epsion have been selling for years) prove that they are making a come back, or at least trying to. The recent dyno tests have been nothing but impressive, so much that I bought myself an XTR2500.1dz even though I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

Well, the BNIB SCV 3K from woofersetc was tested by Big D with the exact same results, 3k at 14.4.

The amp does its rated power so you can't knock it for that but saying it's underrated is false. Maybe the buildhouse is to blame? Maybe the one tested 4 years ago was a ringer?

I'm sure it's a solid product like most everything Sundown is but that price tag for a Korean 3k is wayyyyyy too much imo.

Jacob have you got around to doing your own test on the 3k? Shitstorm all over fb. But I also think it wasnt right to say big d would intentionally fudge his test. I respect you both very much. I was actually kinda shocked to read what you posted. But giving benefit of the doubt do you think there could be a difference between the dyno machines themselves? I mean it does 3k so its not a big deal to me....just wondering if maybe some machines can get out of calibration??

It was more of him implying the test could have been done wrong on purpose. Which as a business owner I can understand but it comes off the wrong way. But also it appears there was a lot more discussion on Facebook so there could be more than what was just said here.

I love Sundown subs but I think the price for there amps need to come down since other company's make more power and cost less.

I had a saz 1500v3 , the only saz that had 3 versions i think. I took the back off and laid beside my buddies scv 2000 and damn if we could find the differnce. And his 2k called for 150 amp fuse just like my 1500. It kinda looks like the older saz's did more than rated so they tweeked a few circuits to limit the scv's from going over 15 volts like the saz's could and slapped a 500 higher digit number on the cover. saz1500v3 saz2500v2 saz3500v2 saz4500 are scv's 2k 3k 4k 5k. And their fuse ratting kinda hints to it..........just saying

That is sort of correct.

The previous gen SAZ amps ran up to close to 19 volts.

The SCV amps run up to 15.5 volts.

As such -- we used the existing proven & reliable boards from the SAZ series and adjusted the transformers to achieve the high-voltage rail voltage (and thus power output) at a lower input voltage. So, the same basic board made more power & thus the power rating was adjusted (duh?) and the part # from SAZ (which was always a high voltage line) to SCV.

It is stated right on our web-site:

"We built off of the legendary SAZ platform and the 8-years of experience we had with them. The biggest difference is that we have fully optimized the power supply for 12v electrical systems (maximum operating voltage of 15.5 volts). This allowed us to offer more power per dollar as well as a smaller footprint per wattage level to our customers."

-----

That all being said -- we are still investigating the SCV-3000D test results.

Multiple amps have been tested in the past to produce more than their rated power levels -- compared to "simply" rated as these tests are showing. Both on our Dyno -- and on the Dyno at Incriminator Audio (#14 from the original post); Nick Wright (owner of IA) is a friend of mine so he ran the first tests for me before we got our Dyno.

My current theory is that the build-house mixed up some of our specs and reduced the rail voltage on the 3000D model at some point during it's production life -- which has no impact on the quality, reliability, or the build cost of the amps. Of course... in 12-years doing business I've never had them do something like that so I had no reason to re-do our own Dyno; thus I assumed the amp Big D had initially was messed up and I, of course, defended our product based on every test we had ever done on it / the actual design spec of the product.

Of course I can't get all the answers I need as fast as the internet can spread negativity... so I haven't been able to get an old unit to measure rail voltage as of yet.

There always have been and always will be cheaper products available.

The pricing is mostly a factor of our business model being based around protecting our MAP online so our local retailers make a decent living and also carrying a 2-year warranty (plus our 5-year discounted replacement)

Furthermore; I have also been pushing the SAE line up to higher wattage to help bring cost down a bit -- the SAE-3000D has been in development for a while and will probably be out this year. Granted, it still won't be the cheapest amp per watt on the market, but it will be less expensive per watt than the current model.

can you explain what the " 5-year discounted replacement" is?

Also will you check on all the other amps in your line up to make sure they are doing what they should?
