I thought a few of you would want a good laugh. I got into an argument with a guy on youtube that says he want to run 12 iraggi alts with A/C motors. This was a response to the "demobus" he has 8 alts running off of two hydraulic motors underneath the back of the bus. The bus has a huge hydraulic pump on the diesel engine.

this just gave me an idea get a 12v to 120 v 1500 w pure sine wave power inverter then a 120v to 600v single phase ac motor connect to a belt then connect a dc VFD to adjust the rpm of the motor then connect this to 8 10 or even 12 iraggi alternators as long as you can find a belt long enough to do this.... thanks man gotta try this just need some $$$$$ now !!!!!
You just need a little common sense now. It takes power to make power, the power inverter uses power and the motor to turn the alts uses power both of them are nowhere near 100% efficiency. So that means it would pull more amps to turn the alts with an electric motor than the alts will put out. To run 12 alts it would also be better to run chain drive.

you seem to forget that once you add a 120 volt to 600 volt transformer the amount of amperage is greatly reduced hence the reason that most commercial buildings use 347 volts or 600 volts because the voltage is directly proportional to amperage so your common sense remark really doesn't make any sense at higher voltages it would only be true if we were still playing with low voltages

Now you really look stupid. If you ran 12 370 amp alts at 14 volts at full output that equals 62160 watts. 746 watts = 1HP so 62160 watts = 83.32HP then the efficiency of an alternator at full output is about 80% so that means it takes about 104HP to turn these alts at full output. So 104HP worth of electric motors to turn the alts to get 84HP out. And then the motors turning the alts are 90% efficient so then that means you need 115HP of electric motor. So you would need 6127 amps to get 4440 amps out of the alts. And your magical transformer that would loose power as well as transformers are not 100% efficient either. Yes the voltage would be higher and the motors would use less current but on the other side of the transformer the voltage is lower and the current is higher.

I almost forgot, you need to factor in that the sine wave converter is only 90% efficient at best as well. So 6800 amps to get 4440. So with that whole setup you would come out -2360 amps

+Clint CavaI don't think you understand what I'm thinking here 1) first we all know that it takes power to make power so what you're saying is taught in basic during an electricians course 2) the alternator are usually only 50 -60 % efficient if you know one that is 80% send me the link. Electricity behave differently when you introduce a circuit with capacitance then you'll have to calculate Vars potential energy held in a magnetic field VOLT AMPS REACTIVE then you change the frequency you'll have to calculate with "f" you also have "L"or Henry's inductance the physical properties of a coil (# of turns ) to inductive reactance or Cemf magnetic resistance. What you were calculating up there was a simple form of Power Factor formula which is correct but you totally missed my point. here's a inductor formula used for calculating electric motors and circuits ___ XL___ 2π/ F/ L then you have if you were to introduce capacitance _______1________ XC/ 2π / f / C XC for Capacitance reactance measured in OHMs Ω and finally C measured in µf or Farads first you can connect 1 or 2 EM2536T 30 HP, 1180 RPM NEW BALDOR ELECTRIC MOTOR this will give you 22 000 watts per unit you step up the voltage from 208 volts to 480 volts using an appropriately sized transformer and transformers are 98 to 99 %efficient all protected of course with breakers and using 12 gauge RW90 rated for 1000v to the back of the vehicle then and connect it to a schaefer c/b6400 maybe 2 of them.that has an output of 22 000 w and can charge the extra batteries in the back.the whole alternator and electric motor thing can and will use way to much space for this kind of set up but it was just an idea that lead to other idea's so don't try to be a smart ass no it all cause your not i don't know it all nobody know's it all! all we can do is take notes and compare in order to progress efficiently but you throwing insults only makes you less efficient So next time you might wanna govern yourself accordingly your approach was way off there's is ways of having productive disagreements without getting all excited and calling people shit...

Your not the first to think of this crazy idea, I've seen people trying to drive alternators with a DC motor in the trunk. lol You have to understand the law of conservation of energy. You are trying to produce 4000+ amps of output with an input of a factory alt which is no more than 200 amps. We both agree about the efficiency losses of the alts, motors and the inverter so where is all this "free" energy coming from. Inductors, capacitors and transformers don't create energy. It cant take more power from the engine because your factory alt is limited. I hope you figure it out, I want to see it. With your knowledge you just created the workings for a perpetual motion machine, which was impossible until now. Good luck man.
