I'm currently using a coil 3.018 by 3.330 with a ww of 3.01 they are .9ohm dvc. I was thinking about switching to a 3.00 by 3.24 with a ww of 2.21 1ohm dvc. I feel the shorter ww is beneficial to the overall performance of the sub but the thinner coil has me a little concerned about loosing strength. The new coil will take up 79% of the gap the old coil took up, but with a shorter ww and thinner gauge winding I should be able to get a similar length of winding in the gap. Would this in turn yield a similar bl? Would it be possible to yield a higher bl?
the smaller coil will have a bit les overall BL but at the benefit of a lighter moving mass vs the high BL heavier coil. I wouldn't over think it honestly. if the wind height is proper go for it
I like the overall performance of the subs and didn't want to change it much but the coil in there now is just to tall and hinders overall stroke. The shorter coil will allow for a good bit more travel without taking away to much linearity.
It's going to be 4 18's in a 6th order b pillar wall currently running a 5k soon to be two 8 k's if that matters. It is a daily driver but I do compete so numbers are important.
length of wire in the gap x the layers x height. you can do some simple circumferences of each layer to get the length BUT you would still need to know the B to calculate BL unless you use a dats or similar to automatically pull the BL its self and reverse deduct the number if that's of importance to you to know the B

So with both being 8 layer and having same height in gap at rest the thinner coil will have more turns it should net a higher bl in the same motor. The thinner coil would have a shorter and steeper bl curve as a down side. In theory I could use a coil the same height as the gap with 8 layers and a ton of turns to get an inflated bl assuming same resistance but would lose a lot of strength once moving.
