The alt in my CRX literally makes zero at idle. I mean, the car runs on batt power only. So, I used to have to stuff something into the throttle to keep it open a bit to keep my rpms up and see some voltage/amperage. I saw some very
successful competitors doing the same thing at a show (you know who you are
Lol), so I thought I would share my little idea for anyone else who has to do that and needs those 1200 rpms that USACI caps idle at. I'm sure other orgs have similar restrictions too.
This is a "gang valve." I bought it at WalMart for $1.99. Apparently, it's for aquariums or some shit. I found a vacuum line on my intake manifold that, when you remove it, will send the rpms up. I cut that line, installed the valve and left that part of it wide open. The other side of the valve is open to the atmosphere and remains closed during normal operation. Anytime you need to adjust the idle, just open it up a bit until you get 1200rpms. Easy peasy. Took me like 2 minutes.
If you want to get really fancy, you could run the vac lines inside the vehicle and mount the valve (or a nice one) inside so you can adjust from the cabin and not even have to go under the hood.
Vid of it in action.
