Default Adjustable idle for $1.99

The alt in my CRX literally makes zero at idle. I mean, the car runs on batt power only. So, I used to have to stuff something into the throttle to keep it open a bit to keep my rpms up and see some voltage/amperage. I saw some very successful competitors doing the same thing at a show (you know who you are Lol), so I thought I would share my little idea for anyone else who has to do that and needs those 1200 rpms that USACI caps idle at. I'm sure other orgs have similar restrictions too.

This is a "gang valve." I bought it at WalMart for $1.99. Apparently, it's for aquariums or some shit. I found a vacuum line on my intake manifold that, when you remove it, will send the rpms up. I cut that line, installed the valve and left that part of it wide open. The other side of the valve is open to the atmosphere and remains closed during normal operation. Anytime you need to adjust the idle, just open it up a bit until you get 1200rpms. Easy peasy. Took me like 2 minutes.

If you want to get really fancy, you could run the vac lines inside the vehicle and mount the valve (or a nice one) inside so you can adjust from the cabin and not even have to go under the hood.

Vid of it in action.

Thats a good idea!!!

Later model vehicles with TCMs and CPUs, you can buy a plug that adjusts your idle electronically or you can buy one of those power programmers that do it.

you could also chip and tune an obd1 ecu

this will
  • allow you to set rpm max at 1200 on chip
  • allow you to turn off the eld
  • allow you to increase hp/tq
  • remove speed governor

use one chip for competing and one chip to drive the car, simple. The ELD is what can also restrict your alternator from performing at max load.

Should/could patent this and sell them for 20 a pop. Little research and trial and error and this could be a hot item. Large profit margin would allow for ample advertising.

the easiest place to mount one of those on most cars is on the vaccuum line that goes into the brake booster. most cars have them on the driver side at the very back of the engine bay. its about a 3/4 inch hose that goes into the brake booster and it usually pulls right off, or has a hose clamp. MAKE SURE YOUR CAR IS IN PARK OR YOUR E-BRAKE IS SET BECAUSE YOUR BRAKES WONT WORK WITH THE VALVE OPEN OR THE HOSE DISCONNECTED.

That sound much more expensive, time consuming and annoying than a $1.99 valve.

I tried that, but feeding it became a hassle.

you really should put a filter on that.
when the valve is open you are sucking unfiltered air right into your motor, not the best thing to do.
