Default Coil Placement for Underhung Explained

After a good deal of looking around and asking questions on where to set the coil in the gap for a underhung build I decided to make something for those who actually search.

You take the Top plate height and subtract the coil height and then divide by two. That is how far down your coil sits in the gap.

2" top plate height, 1.5"ww

2"-1.5"=.5"

.5"/2=.25"

The coil would sit .25" below the top plate.

Thanks to Jacob and Shane for helping me out with guidance.

center of coil to center of top plate. I mark center of coil. Then another mark above that the distance of half the top plate width. Now you can lower the coil into the gap until the top mark reaches the top plate.

What it sounds like you are talking about is how to set a coil in a overhung motor. Underhung and overhung and two different things.
Refer to this thread if you must
how to set coil elevation

The normal method still works provided you have enough former to see the mark. In under or over the coil is still centered on the top plate in almost all situations.
