Default So you are going to build a box? here's what you'll need

Kingranch asked me the other day what he would need for materials and tools to build a box for four 15" subs. I answered him but today I think other people might want to know too.

First off. Routers make perfect circles with the right jig and bits.. but that's like $150 investment.. and you have to order the jig.. cause no one carrys it. Don't forget the hearing protection.. routers are LOUD.
Or
Homedepot has 110v Ryobi reciprocating saw ($45) & Bosh blades {for the reciprocating saw} ($11) and then all you need is a drawing compass for marking and a drill to make a starting hole.

1 5/8" Coarse thread Drywall Screws. Lowes has better price on the 50 lb. "box O' screws"($35) {home depot has it for $50 - $60 and it's still a good deal}

Irwin #2 phillips bit 2 packs. [buy 2] ($2ea){you will loose some}

Ryobi countersink bits ($12 ish)

Irwin individual drill bits [7/64" buy (3) two-packs] {you will break some}

{you need the 7/64" drill bits because the bits that come with the countersinks are not long enough to predrill for the
shank of the screw at the same time as countersinking for the screw head.}

Drywall T square [aluminum]($25) (for laying out cuts with a circular saw.) see Squaring Cuts:Car Audio Classifieds

Right angle clamps ($20 for 4?)

PL200 caulk ($1.34ea.) [buy 10 and a good caulk gun] {has never failed me}

Menards has Carpet.. it's decent. but it's kinda thick.

Double edged Carpet knife ($12) Blades ($3).. {these are sharp and you will cut yourself but they make carpeting alot easier}

Walmart has the best price on 3M Super 77 spray adhesive. ($9.88 I think)
(Super 90 sucks IMO)

A second handdrill or impact driver would do you well also.

If you are going to paint the box, don't use a pen to mark your marks. use a carpenters pencil instead. (pen ink bleeds through primer and paint)
Carpenters pencils and Carpenters pencil sharpener can be bought at most hardware stores.

Nailing it before screwing it.. if you have the desire, it may make your build easier. Be careful and use a 1 1/4" brad nails in a nailer/stapler.

There are certain box layouts which are stronger than others. The easiest and strongest way to build a box is so that the walls are the ice cream in the ice cream sandwich. (top, bottom, walls in the middle)

I place my screws on 6" centers.
I do double them up in some areas if I have a concern. (3" centers)
