Default setting gain on amp problem

i tried setting my wifes gain on her amp its only a 400 watt kicker amp and l3 i couldnt get 28.8 just with the gain the only way i got that was by turning the gain all the way up and the bass boost all the way up i did everything right not sure why i had to max out both the gain and bass boost i had my dmm in the right ac volts has anyone experienced this before could it be because the amp is only 400 watts rms

Most likely RCA voltage coming from the head unit is low. Bass boost is a no no btw.

No offense but I don't really think this is sticky worthy...

Here is a good one.

gain setting tutorial 2010 - Realm of Excursion

Only thing I do differently than with the above is leave the subs hooked up. The difference is small but that's just my preference.

And there are a couple things wrong with the method in the pic you posted.

1. They don't list a recording decibel level for the tone. I recommend -5 or -3 depending on the user's experience level.

2. Do not set your gains with bass eq's off then turn them back on after. This will most likely lead to clipping and or over powering which is a bad thing.

3. Depending on the deck the sub level should be maxed out. Can't say for all but decks like pioneers it is an attenuation. So full output is at +6. You want it at that for good pre out voltage for setting your gain.

I have a cheap pioneer headunit, would SLA be the sub output? I know it gets louder when I turn that up lol, maybe that would explain my I couldn't really get a reading from my amp, I tried to measure voltage and the SLA was at like 1 out of 4
