Default Cone Area Calculator

I didn't see one in here and thought it would be nice to have a thread with this information:

How to calculate cone area
Cone area = pi x (r x r)
pi = 3.14 r = radius of sub

One 8" = 50.27
One 10" = 78.54
One 12" = 113.1
One 15" = 176.71
One 18" = 254.47

Two 8" = 100.53
Two 10" = 157.08
Two 12" = 226.19
Two 15" = 353.43
Two 18" = 508.94

Three 8" = 150.8
Three 10" = 235.62
Three 12" = 339.29
Three 15" = 530.14
Three 18" = 763.41

Four 8" = 201.06
Four 10" = 314.16
Four 12" = 452.39
Four 15" = 706.86
Four 18" = 1017.87

This works generally for a circle's area but different subs will have different "Sd" values.

all it's for is to show you the actual area of the cone, not the entire volume or air that will be displaced

vd is xmax/cone-area, max displacement...I think you thought he meant that instead of sd. EDIT: nvm now i see what you meant.

He may mean that some subs may have slightly different cone area, it may depend on how the brand rates theirs.

Quick little info that is usefull:

The whole wide surround vs half roll myth, some people believe that a wider surround reduces cone area since the cone is sometimes smaller by very little amount. Others believe that 1/2 the surround counts, and others, 1/3 counts.

I believe that part of the surround counts, because a 1/3 - 1/2 is usually moving much with the cone while the rest closer to the basket mount is stationary and shouldn't count.
