Default Focus on SQ Pioneer/PG/Vifa/Seas/PSI-MASS

The goal for this install is to set-up and compete in the ameture SQ division on a $1500 budget. Is a very simple 5 speaker 3-way active set-up. All processing other than a line driver will be through the head unit. The car is a 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 hatchback.

Head unit is a Pioneer FH-P099MD double-din. Has both a graphic and paremetric eq - T/A for each channels - phase control for each channel - individual channel volume - 3-way active eq - factory and user preset eq curves - DSP soundfields - defietable internal amp. Will be mounted in the factory location with a custom billet alum mounting kit. RCA are Knu Konceptz Karma Kables that have been tech-flexed and heat shrinked

Line driver will be either a Audiocontrol matric or Phoenix gold PLD66. Just need to find either or. Will be mounted behind the glove box on a alum braket bolted to the dash's metal sub frame. Again RCA cable are Knu Karma's with TF and HS

Amps are a pr of Phoenix Gold RSD series
A 1200.1 will be driving the substage and a 800.4 will bi-amp the front stage. I have the amps dissasibled and will be changing the LED's to red and also painting the metal "grill" over the plexy red to match the car. They will be mounted on alum sub frames and trimmed with a fiberglass beauty panel wrapped in a yet to be determined fashion. Not painted, not going for a glossy hatch look. Cable from the amps to all speakers is Knu Karma SS with 12 and 16 gauge for the front drivers and 10g for the subwoofer.

The subwoofer is a Audiomobile MASS underhung motor that has been reconed to a 15 by PSI/Dave. With a dual 4ohm coil configuration, it should see around 1200w from the PG amp. The build can be seen here
15" Audiomobile Mass for Orangelss
Will be installed in a 3.77cft sealed enclosure. With the sub displacement and a layer of Cascade deflex panels. Final volume should be around 3.5cft. Sub enclosure will be bolted to the floor after damping is applied. Sub will fire towards the rear of the car and be trimmed with alum so that the bolts holding it to the enclosure can not be seen. A fiberglass beauty panel like the one descibed above will go over that.

Front stage will be handled by a set of Vifa NE19VT titanium tweeters and Seas 8" mid-woofers. The tweeters will be mounted in the a-pillers and be aimed 30deg of axis to help control metal dome beeming. They may be switched to SB Acoustic neo ring domes at a later date. The 8's will be mounted in the kicks and mounted as close to on axis as space will allow. The enclosure will be vented to the underside of the car to simulate free air. They will also be trimmed with a alum ring to hide the installation hardware.

The remander of the wiring is Knu Koncepts Kolosses Flex 1/0 under the hood and to the back. Kolossus 4g will handle power from the blocks to the amps. Will be using matching fuse blocks for both power and ground. A matched set of batterys will be installed also. One under the hood and the second in the spare tire well and mounted with a alum brakets.

Odds and ends. I have made relocation brackets to move the front seats back 4". Also have roughly 500sq ft of generic buytl deadner (was a good deal). Again All wiring has been Tech Flexed and Heat shrunk. Will be removing the interior to install the deadner/glass in the KP's, and run wiring.

Well thats it for now. Here are some pics of the equipment to be installed.

Install cost at this point
Head Unit purchased by GF $480
Amps were $275 for the pr used from the DIYMA forum
Sub $300 with motor and recone
Seas 8" $80pr on ebay NIB
Vifa tweeters from Madisound $55pr NIB
Knu wiring $380
Deadner $50 for 500sq ft
Traded PSI sub for enclosure and rings for mid-woofers $275
Alum plate will run around $250
Fiberglass supplies $250
Covering for fiberglass yet to be decided $?
