I run at .5 and .35 daily. I don't worry about the added current being sent to the subwoofers because it was a lot easier and cheaper to get a heftier coil in my subs than it is to pack the back of my limited space with 2 or 3 times as many huge amps.
But I'm also running a bank of 5 d3100s for a single Saz1500 now too

Imo. Saying you can hear the difference between 1 ohm and .5 is about as realistic as saying you can hear a 1 db change in a sub system. It's psychological. If you didn't know it changed you wouldn't hear a difference. The change in damping factor etc.. is not significant enough to hear a difference unless you are superhuman.
Its the same as saying you can hear the difference between being wired at 2 ohm and 1 ohm. If you cant hear a difference between 1 ohm and .5, then you either have hearing damage or have a lesser quality amp that losses all efficiency under 1 ohm.
Its more than a 1 db change if your subs aren't already at their limits. and I have noticed a difference in a 1db change in a setup. People that heard it without even knowing the score went up heard a difference too.
