What is everybody's opinion on custom subs? And if you like them What is the best combination that you like? I am looking to buy a custom 8 and was just wondering what you guys thought about them.

can be expensive
They are the SAME as any subwoofer, but usually the avg joe who thinks he can build subs who thinks multiple stiff spiders etc is going to kick ass will build you a POS. Usually what alot of builders do is build similar to marketed ones and use parts from them or experiment.

They can be better or much worse.

For an 8 the best thing that needs to be implemented is trying to get a deep basket for decent excursion. These subs will usually have a low qts and perhaps highish fs because the cones are light, but there are companies that use looser suspensions and or heavier cones.

you can expiriment with diff cone masses/spider comliances. etc...Take notes and tsps..
buy some sa-8's, sweet subs that have been proven to take some abuse
An 8" made from a Shocker Signature motor would be INSANE to see lol.

too much motor, not enough basket lol
It would look interesting but would do nothing special at all. No music with that.
I'd just stick with a sundown sa-8.
Tacomaguy can tell you about his sounsplinter 8s...those things are beast...also look at sa8, lvl2 8, Addictive xcrucia8
Pierce audio wmd series 1 8"
The new TC Sounds Epic 8" looks killer for the price...

I could make it play music but wouldn't be cheap at all. and need to either wait or tool my own basket
Lol I'd definitely have a pic of that in my sig if it was ever made.
The motor is wider then the mounting level lol. You could mount it upsidedown or build it around the mounting baffle which would be cool for novelty and you could have plexiglass to show the motor, I always though of this.
lvl5 10's have same problem hell even sig 10's do
problem of a 8' high xmax 3'' coiled sub would be suspension running out
The motors are very strong for a small cone, and it will have sooo much controll it would be better at higher frequencies. You could do something though like a heavy cone if you spray alot of stuff on it or something.

It would also be COOL to see a basket made straight so that the spider landing is about 8 or so.
weight under the dustcap. the 10'' wide loading wall 2 inches from the cone is not going to be to nice though

I'm slowly hoarding them lol
