How do you band pass in active set up?

If someone was going to do a custom 3 component front stage, how do you band pass the frequencies to each component so that a given speaker is only seeing a given range of frequencies. Say an 8" mid from 65 Hz to 150 Hz, a 6.5" mid range 150 Hz to 3k Hz and the tweeter 3k Hz +. How would you do that, what would you need? Thanks.

Well, there are several ways you can do it, some can be combined as well.

One way would be to use an external crossover to separate the frequencies each amp channel will see.

Another way would be to use an amps onboard crossover network to select the frequencies.

Lastly, you can use a 3-way active capable headunit and accomplish the same results.

Depending on the equipment selected, you can use two or more of the above to select the frequencies (headunit for the highpass, eq for the lowpass, etc.).

Honestly I'm not sure if there are any current headunits that are 3-way capable, mostly just older ones.

As for crossovers/eq's, you would have to look at some higher end stuff like an audiocontrol EQX or DQXS.

The easier option would be to get an amp that has a good onboard crossover network that lets you bandpass channels.

if you add a sub then technically you would be running a 4 way active setup and the best 4 way crossover i know of is the stetsom stx104. if you are going to go 3 way then the ones tommy suggested are the best with out stepping to like audison or something like that. you can still run 4 way with either of those pieces as well simply by utilizing the subwoofer out put on the radio and just tuning your amp accordingly in which case the subwoofer out put on the crossover would be used as mid bass (your 8s obviously).
