How exactly dod you clean it?

What did you use etc?

 

looking nice! cant wait to see it finished.

 

I used a knife and put it in the gap between the mag and the bottom plate and then beat it with a hammer till they split.

Then I used like 10 screwdrivers to pry these pieces apart that shit was difficult.

Once separated I used sand paper with fine grit, did it by hand I didn't want any gouges and wanted to ensure a clean finish.


Just waiting on a 6 spoke 18" basket so I can make the alignment and continue with the build.

Anybody want to sell me one?

why did you tear the motor apart?

 

I cleaned it for one.

The other real reason is that I'm going to reverse mount bolts through the top plate and mount the basket to them with nuts and spacers.

 

Looks good.

 

To realign the motor I am using threaded rods to guide the top plate which is attached to the slugs.

 

I also decided to use pads of post-its to micro align the top plate around the pole peice.

They are all the same thickness so this method should suffice.

 

This is one of those things i wish was on video when you did it. This is so interesting and has given me a little bit of hope. I wanted to lathe the top plate out to accept a larger coil.

 

Thats probably a good idea since these have samll gaps.

 

LOVE the shim idea.
Take away the same amount of leafs off each one if need be, and get the same thickness all the way around. If not, then the merrier.

 

YEP I took off 6 single postits from each pad so that they would fit.

BASKET comes tomorrow, UPS so I wont get it untill LATE like 630 or 700.

BUT I plan on working on it all night untill its done.

Gotta drill holes in the top plate and then going to weild the bolt heads to the bottom of the top plate.


Should be STRONG!!

I boutght an 18 inch cone from SUNDOWN the high roll surround like i wanted.

And I WOULD have the spiders and coil if DAVE from PSI would respond to me. LOL

the rebuild looks great man. Out standing work

On a side note though. Why not use a ti basket? Using a 4" VC with those smaller spiders will limit linearity a good bit I would think. Or is this going to be more of an SPL sub?

The zv3 18 surround is so sexy. Im looking forward to seeing how this looks in the end
