The building of a Powered4Sound DoubleShot

If anyone remembers John Nolte from the early 2000s he was the owner of Powered4Sound and known for building the SnailShell and DoubleShot boxes. I had ordered a few of his boxes back in the day and liked them VERY VERY much!!! To this day out of all the boxes I have had built on the forums and other people his have the best quality. These types of boxes overall sq and output with a awesome response curve have been pretty much my favorite. Nothing has beat them when it comes to dropping lowww and picking clear up into the frequency range. Not exactly a good numbers box and I have had other daily boxes burp higher numbers, but my 15" SnailShell for a 2005 RE XXX pulled a 146.2 off an Audiobahn A2300HCT @ 32hz.

I got in touch with him again and as a good friend favor he built some doubleshots for me.

(They are NOT folded horns)

The larger box is for 2 Sundown Audio SA 8 V.2s and the smaller box is for 2 Elemental Designs E3.6s

It is an active labyrinth for 30hz to 100hz but below 29hz turns into a ported enclosure. BUT in between the two bands each sub will resonate individually due to the box loading and active impedance. If you wire both subs to one amp parallel you will see each speaker play it's own frequency until they meet in the middle of the bandwidth. Due to a very flat impedance response, so no rise. The box will do most of the work without over excurting the subs.

It took him a lot of years to get the design where its at, and A LOTTTT of people cutting the boxes in half to copy the design with no luck.

I have talked to him about a lot of theories and designs and in certain areas has more knowledge than PWK.

Those appear to be t-line enclosures. Only downfall of those is they require so much space. Tuned in for sound results tho...

This is also a misconception.T-lines will keep the same throat size or just taper. This box has compression points that servo the impedance, in which steers the enclosure to a 1/4 wave design to a ported. Also each sub will servo individually due to the compression area/volume vas.

(just to scratch the surface on how it works)

He has a set of the older EU700s in this same style box off of 200 watts in his golf and it would ripple his hair on his head.

I would like to see impedance graphs to prove this. I can see this being (if anything) like a ABC enclosure. There would be no way for there to be much difference in tuning if this was a 1/4 wave with the woofers so close together.

He is working on getting in here and talking about them..... I HAVE NO CLUE wtf I am talking about when it comes to that much in depth talk about enclosure designs.

Those 6.5s aren't made anymore if I remember right....but they look beefy in those pics. Preventing box rise....not sure if it's obtainable.
Sadly, yes. ED closed down. I do know where there is one more bnib set, just need to get ahold of the guy. MY FAVORITE 6.5" sub!!

I still have one of the last, if not THE last, Double-Shot Snailshell enclosure Nolte made for my dual 12" MTX T9500-44's .

It is a monster of a box. Weight is also a major factor, .. loaded with the subs it will top close to 200lbs.

I've debated selling the setup since I just have it sitting in storage right now... the Zapco C2k-9.0 i had pushing them had a problem and i had to send it out for repair.

The box was signed by John Nolte inside

Great thread and awesome Double Shots...pretty cool you got him to build you some new enclosures. I've got a P4S Snailshell for a 12" AA Avalanche sitting about 15ft from me...supposedly its the only one he ever built for an Avalanche.

So a few in here know what these enclosures can do.

He has tweaked the design a little bit over the years.

AND YES! I bought the custom 12" RE Audio XXX subs on here from Juan, and right now the box is being built.

I will be doing a build log for those as well.

But here are some pictures

Nice, let me know how you like those vs the stock 12 spoke basket. Those still have the og coil right?
