So I was driving Thursday and I started to hear a weird noise through my woofers. It sounded like an rca issue, so I went to turn the gain down VIA the knob (just until I could get off the highway to try and diagnose the issue). When I turned the gain knob I got a loud "pop/thud" through my woofers. I ended up cutting the remote wire until I could get home to look things over.
3 of the 4 screws backed out of the end plate on my amp. Then the last screw sheared off in the heatsink and the side of the amp sort of "fell" about 1/8th inch so that the only thing holding that side of the amp up was the remote gain port, since it protrudes through the end plate. The amp weighs about 28 lbs and my amp rack is steel that is bolted to my floor/c pillars. Point being the amp gets only the smallest vibration.
Anyone ever have this happen before?
I called DD and they told me that there is no way it happened without some sort of external force on the amplifier. The screws seem pretty cheesy though. I have to ship them the amp and wait to hear what they find. Amp is only 2 months old. The guy I spoke to acted like I was not telling him the truth, and said that he would be able to tell what actually happened once he had the amp in his hands. Best case scenario I'm out 50 bucks for shipping and my "brand new" amp is now a dirty repaired POS. :lmao:
Picture of installation
This is when I got home and inspected it
Screw on the "top left" is the one that sheared.
After I removed the amp from my vehicle. Found 2 of the screws so I put them back in
Bottom left is the sheared screw
